Privacy Policy

Last updated 24 September 2026 · Sonetia for Mac 1.0

Your writing belongs to you. Sonetia needs no Sonetia account and has no developer-operated manuscript service, advertising or app analytics. Your work is saved in files you control. You decide whether to use a cloud folder, export your work or send a chapter to your own publishing site.

Who is responsible

Sonetia is made by Noah Page, the developer responsible for personal information received through this website and support correspondence. This policy covers Sonetia for macOS and sonetia.co.uk. For privacy questions or requests, contact contact@noahpage.com.

Your writing and local settings

Novels, notebooks and notes are saved in locations you choose. A novel’s .sonetia package can contain its manuscript, artwork, characters, research, notes and history snapshots. Sonetia also keeps local working data, file-location records, preferences and recovery information in its app storage. The Mac app uses Apple’s sandbox and the file access you grant through macOS.

Imported PDFs are copied into local Sonetia document packages with their original pages. Highlights and comments are stored with the document. Exporting an annotated PDF includes those highlights and comments, so review them before sharing. Projects are folders containing documents and local project information, including their title and artwork; they do not create an online workspace.

Your writer name, favourite author and assigned painting are stored locally in preferences. They are not an online profile and are not sent to the developer. Your name can appear on your writer card and in document author fields, so check files and images before sharing them.

Writing features do not send your manuscript to an AI service. Sonetia has no advertising SDK, analytics SDK or developer-operated crash-reporting service.

Cloud folders and backups

You can choose a location in iCloud Drive or another file provider. That provider may upload your files and associated information to its servers under your account and its own privacy terms. This is file syncing through the location you chose, not a Sonetia account or a Sonetia-operated cloud service. The Mac app does not use a separate CloudKit manuscript database.

Local writing does not require an internet connection once the files are available on your Mac. Downloading cloud-only files, syncing and publishing do. Your backup software, including Time Machine, may keep additional copies.

Optional publishing and sharing

If you add a WordPress or Ghost site and choose to send a chapter, Sonetia connects directly to that site’s API. It sends the chapter title and converted chapter content to create a draft. Sonetia does not publish that draft live. The destination also receives the connection information normally associated with a network request, such as your IP address.

Site names, addresses and WordPress usernames are kept in local preferences. Application passwords and Ghost API keys are stored in this Mac’s Keychain, separately from those preferences. WordPress requests use your application password for authentication; Ghost requests use a short-lived token signed with your API key. These requests do not pass through a server operated by Sonetia.

Remove a site in Settings ▸ Publishing to remove its saved configuration and Keychain credential. You can also revoke the password or key at the destination. Removing the connection does not delete drafts already sent; manage those on the receiving site. That site’s operator and hosting providers handle the material under their own terms and privacy policies.

Exporting, copying, saving a writer card or using macOS sharing makes content available to the destination you choose. Only share writing and personal information you intend that destination to receive.

Keeping and deleting local data

Your files remain until you remove them. Removing an item from the library is not necessarily the same as deleting its file. Files moved to the Mac’s Trash remain there until it is emptied. History snapshots, recovery data, exports, local working storage and your own backups can contain earlier copies; deleting a single file does not erase all of them.

You can change your writer details in Settings ▸ You and manage snapshot retention in Settings ▸ General. Uninstalling the app alone does not necessarily remove documents, preferences or Keychain entries. Contact support if you need help identifying Sonetia’s local storage before removing it. The developer cannot remotely read, restore or erase files on your Mac or in your cloud account.

Apple services

Apple handles Mac App Store purchases and payment information. If you enable Apple’s diagnostic sharing, Apple may collect diagnostics and make reports available to the developer under your sharing choices. Sonetia does not run its own automatic reporting service. You can review these choices in System Settings ▸ Privacy & Security ▸ Analytics & Improvements. Apple services are covered by the Apple Privacy Policy.

This website

This is a static website. Its code does not set cookies, use advertising trackers or run visitor analytics. It is hosted by Netlify, and its typefaces are requested from Google Fonts. Those requests disclose technical information such as your IP address, browser information and the requested resource to those providers. Hosting providers may retain security and delivery logs.

The purpose is to deliver the site and keep it secure, based on the legitimate interests of providing information about Sonetia and preventing misuse. See the Netlify Privacy Policy and Google Privacy Policy for their processing and retention practices. These providers operate internationally, including in the United States; their policies describe the transfer safeguards they use. Sonetia does not receive your manuscripts when you visit this site.

Support and privacy correspondence

If you contact the developer, your email address, message and any attachments are processed to answer you, investigate the issue and keep a record of its resolution. This relies on the legitimate interests of providing support and handling privacy requests; information may also be kept where a legal obligation requires it. Email is handled through email service providers. It is not added to a marketing list or sold.

Correspondence is kept only while needed for the request, related follow-up or applicable legal requirements, then deleted. Please avoid sending manuscripts or other sensitive material unless necessary for the issue. You can ask for correspondence and attachments to be deleted using the contact address below.

Your choices and rights

Subject to the applicable conditions, UK data protection law gives you rights to access, correct or erase personal information, restrict its use, object to processing based on legitimate interests, and receive portable data where that right applies. Contact contact@noahpage.com to exercise these rights for information held by the developer. You can complain to the UK Information Commissioner’s Office or your local data protection authority.

There is no Sonetia online account to delete and no automated decision-making or profiling by Sonetia. Local files and preferences are under your control; requests concerning cloud storage or publishing services should also be directed to the relevant provider.

Changes to this policy

The current policy is available here and through the app’s Settings window. Updates will carry a new date. Material changes to the app’s data handling will also be described in its release information.
